WOWY - playing / not playing

By Tangotiger, 03:19 PM

In one of the incarnations of WOWY (with or without you) that James proposed 25 years ago with Ozzie Smith, it was simply a total of runs allowed per game with and without the player playing.  I’ve done this at a career level, and the noise doesn’t wash out alot, but it does to some degree.  You can see therefore that at the seasonal level, you’re going to get alot of noise.  Still, it’s fun to do, and that’s what Ben did.

And, in 2009 anyway, you got alot of recognizable names (Yadier at C, Teix at 1B, Pedroia at 2B, Ryan at SS, Figgins at 3B, Crawford in LF, and Rasmus in CF).  Each of those players is at least a plus-defender.  The only player who was not at that level was Nick Swisher in RF.  So, for a simple stat that has the potential for lots of noise, it certainly came up with a pretty good list.
