Worst Playoff teams ever
Nate gives us his list.
The NHL has been the most liberal with allowing teams in the playoffs historically (4 of 6 teams; 16 of 21). Not to mention when they expanded 6 to 12 teams, they put all 6 expansion teams in the same division (4 of which got to make the playoffs). So, you can easily make a top 10 list of mostly NHL teams. I think in Nate’s exercise, you’d have to judge the teams relative to the number of teams allowed in. Basically, what was the record of the average and how did the worst team do. Or, look at the team just ahead of the last place playoff team and the team just behind that team, and how much closer was the bottom playoff team to being out of the playoffs than being in the playoffs.
Lots of different ways to try to get this systematically, while looking at the context of the league.
