When sports memorabilia attacks!

This is from March, 2011, and it describes the Oilers timekeeper keeping possession of Gretzky’s record-setting puck.  I’ve re-read it a few times, and it seems like there was a bunch of pucks, and he managed to keep the important one.  Reading it like that makes some sense when reading this recent article.

It sounds like a chain of custody issue, made problematic because there were multiple pucks lying around. 

I still don’t get how the timekeeper gets to own the puck, other than being (unintentionally) deceitful.
