What to do with the n-word in books?

By Tangotiger, 08:43 AM

We don’t object to the n-word being bleeped on TV and movies that are shown on cable do we?  Heck, we don’t even object to the much tamer sh!t and f-ck being bleeped out either.  And those are words written by a writer, his own work of art.  Did you ever watch Goodfellas on cable?  Martin Scorcese, this generation’s Mark Twain (if that is even possible), sure made it seem like Joe Pesci says “frig” alot.

So, we bleep out the n-word in a book.  I do object to changing the word to slave though.  I don’t think that’s a good compromise.  If the word slave is put in parenthetically, like {slave}, then that would be equivalent to a voice-over on Joe Pesci that says “frig”.

Funny how the people who object to removing the n-word can’t themselves actually say the n-word.
