What about if a team has 97 wins in one year, and then gets better?
This is like the thread on the player who is now healthy. I realize that the answer is trivial (to us at least). However, some people, like Rob Neyer (I haven’t picked on him in a while), like to say something like, “Well, so and so team had 90 wins last year and they added 2 wins in personnel, so they should be a 92 win team now.” Those kind of statements and that kind of analysis bugs me (like 3,478 other things do).
So if a team wins 97 games one year and then improves its team by 3 wins, how many wins so you project for it the next year?
How about this 100% correct statement? If I said this to Joe Morgan, would it blow his mind?
“Well, Joe, here is my analysis. As you know, I am a professional sabermetrician and I actually get paid, sometimes by MLB teams, to figure out this stuff. Anyway, Joe, that team won 97 games last year and they got a lot better this year as we all know. So, let’s see, I project them to be a lot worse next year than last. What about you?”
(Sound of Joe’s head hitting floor...)
