Useless Friday afternoon post

By Tangotiger, 02:50 PM

Only read if you are desperately in need to read something.

This fellow suggested that FIP’s name should be changed.  After all, by focusing on BB, HBP, SO, and HR, we are ignoring two things, not one: fielding and sequencing of events.  I suppose you can even say that since we are not adjusting for the park that it is park-dependent.  And we are not adjusting for the stength of opponents either.

So, FIP is really “fielding-independent, event-sequencing neutral, park-opponent-dependent” pitching.  FIESNPODP.  Or, as an alias, a nickname, how about… FIP?
