The Earned Perfect Game
I GOT IT!
The EARNED Perfect Game. Follow me here. We reconstruct an inning to determine if a run is earned or not, based on removing errors, correct?
Well, insofar as the perfect game is concerned, we reconstruct the game (not inning) as if there was no E-0 play (umpire error; credit to MLB.com commenter). So, an E-0 on the presumptive 27th out makes it an EARNED Perfect Game. If it was on the 25th out, and that was followed by a single, then, that’s it, no EARNED Perfect Game.
There. Problem solved because I am simply creating a new category.
David Palmer and Pedro Martinez and a few other pitchers get their EARNED Perfect Game.
