This is a fairly common business tale. STATS made a smart business decision, one that Irwin Howe would understand, and one which made sense from a bottom-line perspective. But baseball is a sport firmly rooted in both its past and its statistics. And the people who love baseball lost part of their statistical heritage with the demise of HNB, a company involved with baseball statistics since 1910.
