Stop playing the all-star game?
Rob Neyer makes no mention of the money. I haven’t really checked, but this thing is a cash cow. And, I haven’t double-checked, but the money goes into the pension fund.
If anything, there should be more all-star games, because the economics demand it. Not that I’m a fan of it. But this isn’t about me, or Rob Neyer or you. This has nothing at all to do with fairness, honor, or any other thing that you want. The All-Star game exists in the same way that “reality” shows exist. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. Plenty of other things to do.
Sure, I’d love to relive the magic of the 1987 All-Star game. 1987 also gave us Lethal Weapon and Robocop, but they went and ruined it with the sequels. 1987 gave us The Untouchables, and they moved on. The All-Star game has morphed into something else. So, enjoy it or move on.
