Some interesting decisions in tonight’s DET/TEX game…
1) Letting Porcello pitch the 6th. Exactly what we have been talking about the last few days in the other threads. He was facing the lineup for the third time. He is overall a very mediocre (below average) pitcher. The third time through the lineup, he is probably close to replacement level. I guess I can say this because he ended up allowing 3 runs. If he shut them down, I would be excoriated.
2) IBB to Cabrera with 1 out and no one on, tie game, in the 8th? I can’t imagine that this is correct.
3) Allowing Young to hit rather than pinch hitting with someone like Betemit. I don’t know what is correct here. You are probably going to take Young out for defense if you take the lead anyway. You want someone at bat who makes contact and does not hit into DP’s.
4) Not pinch running for Cabrera with runners on 1 and 3 and one out. I don’t know what is correct here. I do know that I thought that there is no one who would have been thrown out on that fly ball. Could Cabrera have been any slower coming down the line?
