So you think pitchers are smart?

Today in the Red Sox/Indians game, the only run was scored via a suicide squeeze in the bottom of the 8th inning.  Here is a quote from Boston’s pitcher, Daniel Bard, who was on the mound when the squeeze was executed:

While Francona wasn’t surprised about the squeeze play, Bard was caught off-guard.

“I didn’t see it coming at all,” Bard said. “No one told me anything. He didn’t square around the first three pitches, I don’t know why he would there.”
