Smoltz and Eck

Dan compares their values as starters and relievers

I think the word “leverage” should have appeared at some point, even if it (may be / is) already rolled into the Rally numbers he presented.

I also would not compare Eck’s career starter numbers from his 20s to his reliever numbers in his 30s.  Same deal for Smoltz.  I don’t think it’s (necessarily) a good expectation to have of Eck to average for a period of years as 3.5 WAR starter at the end of his career.

Finally, I’m not crazy about completely keeping BABIP out of the discussion.

That said, I enjoyed the article!
