Smokeless tobacco in MLB
I abhor all tobacco products. Probably has to do with my father smoking packs a day in the house, that contributed to so much second-hand smoke in my lungs (and my siblings and mother) that the doctors are disbelieving when we tell them none of us ever smoked. In my particular case, by ever I mean ever. No tobacco, no drugs, nothing. (Yes, I’m boring.) Anyway, my lung capacity is two-thirds what it should be. I could never figure out why I used to run around like crazy when I was a kid, and then when I was a teenager, I’d be frequently out of breath. That said, here’s Bruce Bochy:
I don’t know if it should take an act of Congress to do it.
Congress continually picking at MLB is very biased. Congress likely knows that it can use its bully pulpit to get done what the courts likely won’t let them do: intrude on people’s rights. This is a workplace issue, a safety issue, a marketing issue. This is to be decided between players and management (or really, players and players). It would be nice if the players were to take the lead here, and tell each other that they used to be kids who held players to high esteem, higher than they should have; once as adults, they realize there’s nothing that really makes them special. But, they are special, so, be a man, and do something positive.
I wish I knew enough when I was a kid so that I could tell the adults to f-ck off.
