Single-manager Careers
An interesting question came up on Bill James’ site, and here’s my reply:
Using the Baseball-Databank database, these players all had single-manager careers (apologies for using the “ID"):
playerID managerID Num_Years
jonesch06 coxbo01m 16
drysddo01 alstowa01m 14
rommeed01 mackco01m 13
sciosmi01 lasorto01m 13
phillde01 clarkfr01m 13
koufasa01 alstowa01m 12
mcdougi01 stengca01m 10
rolfere01 mccarjo99m 10
pujolal01 larusto01m 9
parkewe01 alstowa01m 9
colemje01 stengca01m 9
shielsc01 sciosmi01m 9
selkige01 mccarjo99m 9
Buck Rodgers does not appear because his short last year coincided with a manager in-season switch, and the database I was using was not set by date, just by year. If he stopped playing before the switch was made, then he has 9 seasons.
