Secondary Average: the sabermetric gateway drug

Patriot gives us an overview of Secondary AverageTo the extent that batting average is in the discussion among your non-saber buddies, then secondary average should be the next thing we talk about before we get to Linear Weights or Runs Created.

It’s a progression, from crawling to walking to running to flying.  Just because we’re used to our BaseRuns 747 doesn’t mean we can ignore the Secondary Average Crocs when people are happily ignorant of being able to stand upright.
