Rotten Tomatoes: Critics v Viewers
Does Rotten Tomatoes, or some third-party site, collect the results of critics and viewers in an easy to sort manner? I see that Green Lantern is 26% via the critics and 61% via the viewers (I don’t know if the viewer number is average or low). IMDB.com shows it as a pretty average 6.3 (#41 out of 80 movies in 2011). The IMDB number seems right. It’s a movie that would appeal more to a specific genre, and would not have much cross-over appeal (this was guaranteed by the introduction of the Guardians of Oa).
Anyway, I’d like to see if the critics were simply being overly-critical or did they follow Ebert’s rule of judging the movie based on what the director intended to do. Ebert (and his readers) gave it 2 1/2 stars, and again, that sounds just about right. Ebert’s 2nd to last paragraph is exactly right. I suspect most movie critics would agree with him, even though they didn’t like the movie. Bottom-line: you get what you expect.
