Remaking a great movie

WarGames (1983) was a great movie.  They’re talking about remaking it.  To my surprise, several months ago, I saw the remake of WarGames (2008).  It was, quite possibly, the most boring tech movie I have ever seen.  Completely devoid of anything redeeming from the original.  I don’t see how they can possibly capture the magic of WarGames (1983), in no small part due to Broderick’s boyhood charms. Exactly what is the point of remaking it?  I still have watched, and would watch again, the original.  And that was just a few months ago.
