Rediscovering The Simpsons

By Tangotiger, 09:35 AM

I used to be a huge Simpsons fan.  Enormous.  It was one of the few shows that I made a point to watch.  I left it several years back, and just occasionally turn it back on.  It’s been on for 22 seasons now, so, how good could it still be?

And the blogosphere of course has the same bias as I did, debating when did The Simpsons peak.  The best response against that is by a Simpsons writer who said message boards peaked a decade ago.  It is of course foolish to think that a show that has a stable of rotating writers could peak the way a single athlete can peak.  You could say the same thing about Law and Order SVU, another show that was a Tangotiger stable, and they’ve had several fantastic episodes in the past couple of years.

Anyway, my kid (still in elementary school) discovered The Simpsons a couple of weeks back, and he’s hooked, bawling his eyes out.  (I as a parent have a tough time with some of the scenes, especially last night with the discussion of premarital sex.  I just cross my fingers and hope that my kid is oblivious to some of what is going on.) And, The Simpsons has recaptured me.

For those wanting to catch up, all episodes for all seasons are available for free online, with no commerical interruption.  They even have a handy viewer guide and ratings for each one.

Anyway, last time, they had the unlikely pairing of fast-and-loose Edna with straight-and-narrow Ned.  And, the viewers are to vote on whether to be on Team Nedna or not.
