Reason #13 why Maddon is…
Here is his lineup today versus a RHP (T Hunter of Texas):
J JASO
C CRAWFORD
E LONGORIA
B ZOBRIST
C PENA
H BLALOCK
S RODRIGUEZ
R BRIGNAC
B UPTON
Much of that bad lineup is due to how players are “doing” so far this year, rather than their true talent going forward. And I have no idea why Upton is batting 9th. I suppose because he is not doing too well this year either, although his park adjusted lwts is not terrible (-4).
Anyway, this lineup generates 5.988 runs per game in Texas (against T Hunter and various TEX relievers).
Changing the lineup to this (what looks like a more reasonable one off the top of my head):
B UPTON
C PENA
C CRAWFORD
E LONGORIA
B ZOBRIST
J JASO
S RODRIGUEZ
H BLALOCK
R BRIGNAC
Generates 6.050 rpg. You can probably create a more optimal lineup as this one was just off the top of my head and the first and only one I tried. The difference is 10 runs per 162 games or 1 win, which is quite a bit for a lineup change.
