Reason #12 why I think Joe Maddon is an idiot…

I don’t mean that literally of course, but my opinion is that because he likes to think that he is smarter than most managers, he does a lot of really dumb things.

Tonight in the TB/TOR game, he had his switch hitters hitting righty against the RHP Marcum, apparently because RH hitters are hitting (BA) .280 and LH are hitting .166 this year.  And those numbers are batting average. I don’t know off-hand Marcum’s OPS or wOBA platoon ratio this year.

Unfortunately for him (Maddon), Marcum’s OPS platoon ratio over the last 4 years is around 1.10, which is actually slightly higher than the average RH pitcher, so I have no idea what Maddon is doing, as is often the case.
