Reader request of the day: Pitcher W/L

By Tangotiger, 11:56 AM

I am not particularly interested in discussing this at the moment, but a reader asked, so I am posting it.  Who knows though, I may be hooked into it:

If you could fix baseball’s official rules on pitcher W’s & L’s, how would you do it?

The reason I ask, is ‘cause of a post at the B-R blog today about games where neither team allowed an ER… and it suddenly hit me that pitchers get L’s for it if their team loses even if the pitcher didn’t allow an ER, yet it won’t be held against them in ERA or anything else. That seems absolutely inconsistent even with baseball’s own rules.

If you could, blog about this so everyone can chime in on it?
