Question of the day….

By , 05:02 AM

This was inspired by this blog entry by Rob Neyer on Willie Mays and his HR totals.

Let’s say that a player played his home games in a park that has a long-term HR park factor of .9, meaning that it suppresses HR’s among all players by 10%.  We’ll assume that that is its true HR park factor.

Our player hits 210 career HR at home and 200 on the road in around the same number of PA in a 20-year full-time career.  That is all you know.

Did his home park likely “rob him” of some HR’s and if yes, what is your best estimate of how many?

I’ll add 2 more parts to the question:

What if the player hit 230 at home (in the same park) and 180 on the road?

What if the payer hit 180 at home and 230 on the road?  Again, same park.
