UPDATE: For the sales business analyst job, there’s this extra information that was passed along to me:

That is actually lining up to be a pretty great opportunity for someone who likes to dig around in data.

Specifically for that job it will be sales data housed in Microsoft CRM 2011, TicketMaster, and a few other sources and using Microsoft SQL Management Studio, SQL Reporting Services, and Excel Pivot tables to support the dynamic needs of our newly restructured sales department.

Traditionally someone like this would actually fall into my department, but we are taking a different approach and essentially implanting a semi-technical person into the sales department so they can give a focused effort, but still have my team to leverage as a resource.

We have trained a handful of key sales personnel to leverage SQL Management studio to create SELECT statements to view their data and it has been really effective and way more powerful than many of the adhoc reporting tools we have purchased or evaluated in the past.  Then when a report “sticks” for a few rounds, or they need a pretty printed report, it’s quick and easy to transfer those queries into SQL Reporting Services for long term use.

We are excited to bring in someone who can help take that concept to the next level.
