Poz by birth year

By Tangotiger, 02:59 PM

I’ve been doing these “lists by birth year” since forever, because I think it’s a great way to put players in context.  I definitely do not like the way it’s currently done, by looking at when someone retired (Puckett, Koufax, etc).

If you wanted a better way, you’d find a player’s smoothed out “peak year”, and make that the comparison point.  But, that is alot of work, and I’m not sure it buys us much more.  As an example, Tim Raines peaked early, while Edgar Martinez peaked late.  But then, what do you do with guys with double-peaks, or what looks like pretty flat performances?

Anyway, Poz is on the bandwagon.
