Player-owners

By Tangotiger, 12:33 PM

Kevin has a good article on it for MLB.

In the NHL, Mario Lemieux was an owner-player.  This happened because he had deferred payments as a player, he then retired, he converted his deferred payments into an ownership stake, then un-retired.

Was Michael Jordan an owner-player too?

And of course, Bobby Orr’s 18% ownership stake in the Bruins in an agreement that was either never presented to Orr, never accepted, or never made.
