Platoon splits by pitch type

By Tangotiger, 09:11 AM

Max wows us again:

platoon    pitch
1.12    Slurve
1.08    Sinker
0.80    Heater
0.57    Slider
0.56    Rider
0.41    Cutter
0.27    Jumping fastball
0.21    Rising fastball
0.01    Power change
-0.13    Tight curve
-0.69    Roundhouse curve
-0.77    Straight change

This is adjusted for count and pitcher quality.  This table means that RHP sinker pitchers eat up same-handed hitters.  But, curveballs lean toward having a reverse platoon split.  John Walsh first showed that to us in THT08 (I think it was 08), and it’s a great finding.
