Pitching helmet

By Tangotiger, 12:40 PM

Jacques Plante was ridiculed for wearing a face mask… as a goalie.  Now, it would be unconscionable to not ever wear one, even in practice, even if you are just playing ball hockey on the street. Pro players wearing helmets and visors helps the young players accept that protection is necessary.

So, we now have a pitching helmet:

Your first inclination may be to laugh, just as you would if you were born 50 years ago, and saw Jacques Plante with a face mask.  Or when you saw the first batting helmet, or face mask, or whatnot.  You used to ride a bike helmetless when you were a kid, and now, you would not think to let your kid ride a bike without a helmet.  Opinions change because of new data.

Your first inclination doesn’t have to be the one that sets your opinion forever.  Inertia is not a way of life.
