Orphan
Non-sports post.
There’s a horror/thriller movie that’s been playing on HBO called Orphan. Reading the first five reviews, which are far-ranging in their ratings from a big plus on Ebert to a big minus on Beradinelli, I pretty much agree with all of them. I was left with not knowing whether I actually liked or didn’t like the movie, other than I wanted to watch it. (The movie is sort of Hand that Rocks the Cradle or The Good Son..... Cradle was a very good movie and Good Son was a terrible movie… hard to tell where Orphan fits in.)
The review by Ann Hornaday at the Post is exactly how not to write a review. She writes bullsh!t, as in writing a summary opinion while providing no evidence. Baredinelli was able to write his scathing review without resorting to bullsh!t. Hardaway wrote only bullsh!t.
This is what I mean when I talk about bullsh!t. It’s all fine and well to have a strong negative opinion. But tell us what it is that happened that lead you to that conclusion. Don’t just come with the conclusion.
