MVP 1987
A long while ago, I converted rWAR into a Won-Loss record, such that if you total it on the team level, it would add up exactly to that team’s W-L record. I like it, because it sidesteps the whole replacement discussion. That discussion hinges on the replacement level, and presents a single number for a player. Once you do that, you lose at least half your audience.
Instead, if you present things as two numbers, then the reader is free to choose how he wants to smush those two numbers together. And no amount of smushing would put Andre Dawson anywhere close to #1.

In the National League, here were the leaders in Individualized Won-Loss (or what I call, The Indis):
Wins Loss Player
11 -2 Davis (that’s a negative 2 loss)
11 -1 Gwynn
11 0 Da Murphy
10 -1 Raines (missed one month due to collusion)
10 0 Ozzie
10 0 Strawberry
10 2 Bob Welch (a pitcher! ah!!)
10 3 Hershiser
9 -1 Ja Clark
... a ton of players here
6 4 Hawk
Eric Davis… you young’uns don’t know what you missed.
