Montreal Expos, Forgotten by Many, Are Reuniting in Cooperstown
A nice Expos article, which just a little hiccup here:
“A lot of the fans weren’t quite knowledgeable about the game; they would make comments like, ‘What time is the match today?’ ” Dawson said. “But for the most part, they were learning the game and they enjoyed it. I really had a wonderful time there.”
“Match” is how you say “Game” in french. So, a french person, trying to speak english, might say, “Eh, Hawk, what time de match?” Hawk may be right, but that example was not a good one. I guess a good test would be to talk about balks, dropped sac flies, infield fly rule, dropped third strikes, two runners on the same base (confounds even umpires!) and other kind of arcane rules that you don’t necessarily learn in little league. Do you guys have other rules that a kid playing high school ball would know that someone in little league probably wouldn’t? I’m thinking anything harder than the force play, and less difficult than the “4th out”.
