Moneyball: one minute review
I enjoyed the movie as a baseball fan. I enjoyed the movie as a regular movie goer. Having Scott Hatterberg as one of the pivotal characters was great, in a “The Natural” kind of way. I thought all the character-types (GMs, scouts, players, etc) came off looking fine or otherwise sympathetic. Given the theme of the movie, the characters came off very balanced (which is pretty hard to do). The daughter was great.
The actors themselves were great. Brad Pitt (who looks more and more like Robert Redford) was magnetic. Jonah Hill was reserved, yet made an impact. Philip Seymour Hoffman kept his scenes tense. Whoever player Grady Fuson gave Grady a strong will, without making him look clumsy, in a movie designed to push him out. Whoever played the daughter was as charming and composed as you’d want your kid to be, while still being a kid.
I loved every reference to Bill James.
Any negative reaction (from a baseball fan) is really looking to find fault for the sake of finding fault.
