Momentum does not exist, opposing coaches agree!
Wings were up 2 games to 0, so they had the momentum, right? The Penguins win the next 2 games, so they have the momentum, right? Here is what the head coaches of those two teams say:
Red Wings coach Mike Babcock doesn’t believe that momentum carries over from one game to the next.
Penguins coach Dan Bylsma doesn’t either—never mind that the Penguins certainly appear to have momentum after winning the last two games in the Stanley Cup Finals. “I see every game as a separate entity,” Bylsma said Friday. “If we have the momentum right now, we have to reestablish it with our first shift or how we play in the next game.”
Or as Earl Weaver once said:
Momentum? Momentum is the next day’s starting pitcher.
