MIN/NYY picking on a nit
Enough has been written about the bad call by Cuzzi (and it was a duzzi), the bad base running by Gomez, etc.
I have one nit to pick. It is the bottom of the 9th. The first batter is Texeira. He hits a rope to right field, towards the line. The ball goes almost to the warning track for a sure double. Somehow, the Twins RF’er comes out of nowhere to field the ball and hold Texeira to a single. Isn’t that nice? One of the announcers (Darling, I think) casually remarks that the RF’er was playing deep, which he clearly was. Really deep.
Why the hell would he be playing deep with a 2-run lead? I mean why the HELL (pardon the language if anyone is offended) would he be playing deep? Because Teixera has a lot of power? Sure he does (have power). Where SHOULD the RF’er be playing? With a 2 run lead and no one on base, take the RF’ers “normal” position, wherever that might be, and then move IN 5 steps (or 3 or 10, or whatever it is) and THAT is where he should be playing.
If someone, anyone, says (and proves) that he normally plays DEEPER than he was playing on that single, I’ll eat this blog.
Oh, BTW, is it Guy or Rally (or someone else), I owe a donation to, for the Wieters bet?
