Life and Times of Stanley Cup
Fun stories.
He describes the Cup as “the people’s trophy,” of it having such wide appeal because it’s so accessible. He’s at least partially responsible for that - Bolt has occasionally pulled over beside a roadhockey game so Stan could watch from the sidewalk.
He once saw a young girl in a Steve Yzerman jersey, walking with her father, and he couldn’t resist.
“It wasn’t long after Detroit had won the Cup,” Bolt recalls. “I asked her if she really was an Yzerman fan, and she was. So I cracked open the Cup for her.
“Her dad told me they’d been having a tough day, and that this was an awesome way to turn it around.“‘
Bolt is often the one spending summertime days/nights with the Cup and each of its winners - hence the knowledge gained from then-New Jersey Devils’ Brian Rafalski in 2000 that the bowl holds 14 beers.
“That’s to the rim,”
So, 341ml x 14 = 4.77L (20 cups). Now you know.
