Lastings Milledge or LASTINGS MILLEDGE?
Eric gives us a study on perennial prospects, where he classifies players as prospects who didn’t perform well between the ages of 23-26, even though they were given plenty of opportunities. He found 340 Lastings Milledge-types. Then looked for what happened to them at age 27-29:
A total of 21 players… producing more than 1.6 WAR in each of their age 27, 28, and 29 yrs old seasons.
That’s 6.2%.
I’m thinking I’d like to see a comparison point. Perhaps players who produced more than 1.6 WAR in each of their age 23-26 seasons, and then finding out how often they continued to post 1.6 WAR in each of their 27-29 seasons.
Nonetheless, great study, one I’ve been meaning to do for years now, and I’m glad someone else did all the heavy lifting.
