Jaroslav Halak, lazy bones?
Halak gave up a goal to make it 3-0, while standing in the crease, and the shooter unscreened took a medium-length shot. He was not in any kind of ready position. It was the Hanley Ramirez play, but worse. He’s the g-dd-mn goalie. A lazy effort is a goal, which is huge. The Montreal Gazette makes no mention of the play in the game story. (Maybe there’s a sidebar I missed?). Philly.com does highlight the play, but certainly doesn’t make him look too bad (bad, yes, but not bad enough):
Those demons definitely were dancing in Halak’s head when he bobbled Leino’s shot in the third period, resulting in a 3-0 Flyers lead.
Leino took a harmless shot from the bottom of the faceoff circle and handcuffed a waiting Halak. The shot bounced off his glove and into the net.
“Waiting” does not do it justice. Standing uninterested and not in a ready position. It was frankly the worst goal I have ever seen. I’ve seen bad goals, where the goalie makes a stupid / risky / sloppy play. But, to just stand there? As if it was your own team that had the puck and your team was skating away? Like you are an observer? That’s what he looked like.
