Is there a positive or negative correlation between signing bonuses for draftees and veteran MLBer?
Kristi Dosh asks:
Now, maybe you’ve heard Major League players come out and speak against rising signing bonuses. Maybe you’ve heard them argue that those kids are unproven and may never make it to the Majors. Maybe you’re sitting there thinking, Hey, shouldn’t the MLBPA fight for hard slotting so that there is more money available for the Major League players? It’s a really good question, but the answer is no. Rising signing bonuses and contracts for freshly-drafted players drives up Major League salaries. Now that Major Leaguer can go into his next contract negotiation and demand more money than that unproven kid. Most guys will get it, too.
Which do you think it is?
