Inside the mind of a GM

By , 10:23 PM

Long time GM Jim Bowden has a call-in show on XM radio with Joe Castellano.  I have to admit that I have not listened to it much and I know nothing about Bowden other than he is not generally considered the best GM in history, I don’t think.

Anyway, if you want one example - a cherry picked one - of a GM’s thought process regarding in-game strategy…

Bowden thought that Manuel should have IBB’d A-Rod with runners on 2nd and 3rd and no outs in the 8th inning of last nights game with the Phillies leading by 6 runs, because he has been “hot” during the post-season. I am not kidding.

In all fairness, listening to him speak during the rest of the show, he sounded articulate and intelligent…

In case you wonder why font offices “let” managers do anything they want during a game, right or wrong…
