Image v Choice
As long as the league controls the playing field and controls the clubhouses, they can certainly impose reasonable working conditions. This is no different than a manager requiring his players to wear a suit on planes, or the owner requiring his players to shave, or whatnot.
But the sentiment espoused by the blogger that because they were lax in one respect that they shouldn’t bother in other respects is silly. The only thing I learned from his article is that Brett Butler doesn’t care about the image of the league or the health of the players.
