I’m now a free agent
Any and all of my obligations to MLB and NHL teams (either directly or through a third party) have now been completed. My current dealings with these pro teams are all now on an informal basis. And we’ll see if any more teams come a-calling.
I’m not sure that this is necessarily good or bad. These gigs were always a secondary source of income for me, with the NHL ones by far the most fruitful. I’m not sure that NHL teams are really that crazy for more analytics. I worked through a company (there were three of us), and our contact person with NHL teams was fantastic. He was highly respected by the GMs and even owners, and we made strong contacts with virtually all the teams. And I went through the event data fairly exhaustively, and we produced some great reports for a few years. So, teams liked what we did.
Anyway, I’m not sure where to throw myself at this point, whether to continue to work on/off with pro teams, or whether to do something web-based ad-driven, and basically close off access with pro teams. I’ve got a few ideas, so we’ll see what I’ll do.
