Ichiro: The Greatest CF Ever?

By Tangotiger, 07:34 PM

Detect-O-Vision pointed out that Ichiro has 3.71 chances per 9 IP.  (League average for CF is 2.80.) His LF is mostly Ibanez, for a team total of 2.10 (average is 2.12).  And in RF, mostly Guillen, they are at 1.99 (league average of 2.04).

Ichiro has 99 putouts on 102 chances.  Mike Cameron, also with 102 chances, has 82 putouts.  Ibanez and Guillen are doing p-ss poor in ZR, which may mean that Ichiro is “stealing” outs in both their zones.  Typically, a CF would “steal” from one side, not both sides!  Will be interesting to see the ball distribution pattern in Seattle at the end of the year.  (Let’s cross our fingers for John Walsh to do our dirty work.)

There must be plenty of FB being allowed by Mariner pitchers for the corner OF to have league average out rates, but league-poor out/BIP rates.

Here’s the STATS data.  And from Forman:
