Humor and Plagiarism
I remember reading this story on a joke list when I was at my first full time job. If you’ve never read it, please do so. I was in tears by the end. That’s the humor part of this post.

I’ve remembered that post all these years. It was that funny to me. So, I decided to look for it just now, and all I googled was

, and there it was. Link above. God bless the internet.
Then, I was trying to find out exactly where it originated (or if it was even real). Because of where/when I was living, the author’s claim that her students were the ones that originated this story in the late 1990s are 100% false. (If I had to guess, I’d say I first read this in a joke list in the early 90s.) I would not be surprised if her kids copied the story, and the teacher did not know. And she thought they were original. She seemed to respond to that effect. Curiously, the Globe and Mail has not put any kind of notice on that article.
