How to do a Futures Game
Dave doesn’t like the US v World format. It’s worked in the NHL in the past (North America v World) because there’s ALOT of great talent on both sides. I think soccer also does a Europe v World.
I don’t see any reason to do an NL v AL format for prospects. I’ll give you one that might work out: base it on age, kind of like when the seniors play the alumni in high school. The alumni are better, but they are no longer playing together, some might not even be playing at all. So, that levels the playing field.
For the minor leagues? Well, list for me the 30 best minor leaguers, and show their ages. And draw a line. Do the same for the last two or three years. Is that line always around age 22 or something? Then make that the line. Take all the 22-and-unders and play them against the 23-and-overs. (Or whatever the age line would be over the past few years that gets them about equal.)
An AL v NL is just arbitrary and meaningless for minor league players from an MLB fan standpoint.
