How not to apologize - “It was an accident”

By Tangotiger, 12:46 AM

The coach who grabbed a basketball, to clear space, and then “accidentally” elbowed his player in the face hard enough to knock him to the floor.  “I’m sorry it happened”.  It.  Like some snowstorm happened.  And not knowing he crossed the line.

This is what he did NOT say:
“Matt, I went to grab the ball, and I didn’t intend to hit you.  I only wanted to clear some space, and I was reckless in how I used my elbow.  And the force I used with the elbow was predicated with my frustration with you and the team, and so I used excessive force.  I lost control of my emotions.  I cursed you.  I was out of line from the beginning.  I’m sorry I assaulted you.  I’m sorry I chased you out of the gym by cursing at you. It didn’t play out the way I wanted, but I was reckless and stupid.  I’m sorry Matt for what I caused you.”

This is what he DID say:

And the lawyer who says “the whole team signed it”, and then arguing about how many players on the team signed it.  Are you kidding me?  Who cares if the entire school signed it.  That’s not the point!

Let’s help out the coach and all other people who don’t know how to apologize.  Give him a good “I’m sorry” to learn.  And don’t feel bad for yourself!  Idiots.  You are the one at fault.  Don’t try to absolve yourself of blame and try to make it seem like you are a good person.  You are a good person just like the other 5 billion people on this planet.  You are a good person who did something bad. Own it.
