How good are the Consumer Reports Scouts?

I’m a long-time subscriber to Consumer Reports.  Loooooong time.  They give me a comfort feeling when I have to make a purchase that I know nothing about.  Their bread-and-butter is their car ratings, but they do everything.  I’ve never really been impressed with their ratings of things that I really know about (say like computers), but I kind of accept their ratings about other things.  Doesn’t make sense really.  Anyway, we’re looking for a new coffeemaker after our Delonghi twice broke down in less than a year.  Mama didn’t raise no fool… well, I guess she did, since I got fooled twice.  Shame on me.
