FIP - fielding independent AND randomly-sequenced events pitching

By Tangotiger, 10:47 AM

Maybe I should call it FIRSEP.  FIP not only tries to take fielding out of the equation, but also presumes a random ordering of walks, K, and HR.  A pitcher, who loads the bases on walks, and gets out of the jam by striking out the side, is not treated kindly by FIP.

Whether a voter or fan thinks that what the pitcher did was a good thing or not, I’ll leave to the observer to decide.  And that will tell him whether FIP is for him or not.
