Fastball pitchers and slap-hitters

By Tangotiger, 02:06 PM

We already knew this:

One of these truisms is that pitchers are not afraid to [pitch to] high contact slap hitters, and thus will feed them a steady diet of fastballs, knowing the worst case scenario is probably a groundball, even if they turn on it.

But, now we know the extent:

Love this stuff.  We know clutch hitting exists, but what is the extent?  We know that pitchers control the outs on balls in play, but what is the extent? We know that 2-0 is a hitter’s count, but how damaging is it?  We know that pitchers throw fastballs on guys who can’t hurt them much, but what is the extent?  Rather than the answers to this questions being “a little” or “a lot”, our job is to quantify as best we can this impact.
