Economists are just like regular fans when it comes to baseball
Freakanomics asked sports economists a boring question about MLB re-alignment and they gave a boring answer that didn’t require using their expertise.
Here’s the questions I’d like those guys to answer:
1. What would happen if you realign every 8 years?
2. What would happen if the teams that won the most in the last 8 years got to “draft” its division mates?
3. Other than one “main” rivalry, why is geography necessary for unbalanced schedules?
4. What if you split divisions by market size, and give more playoff entries to the bigger divisions?
5. Does the DH issue exist because half the league has it? Had the DH been in both leagues from the beginning, wouldn’t the new fans over the last 30 years have not missed the pitcher batting?
And I’m sure you guy can come up with even better more interesting questions than mine.
