Does it matter how you rest your guys?
The thesis of this article on ESPN.com is that Girardi should not have rested so many of his starters (Gardner, A-Rod, and Texeira in the field I guess) against a good (and rival in the division) team and perhaps that he should not be resting more than one player at a time.
Of course, all of the “analysis” in the article are sound bites and “after-the-fact”, results-based logic (or illogic).
Anyway, the questions I have (and I have not thought about much, other than to pose the question) is, “Does it matter, and if yes, by how much, if you put out a bad team against a good or bad opponent?”
“Is it better to rest one player at a time or several players in one game?”
I assume, off the top of my head, that you want to rest your players against teams that are not your rivals for the division or the wild card, since those games are “double whammy’s”, but I’ll throw that out there as a question as well.
