Component runs allowed (BaseRuns for pitchers)

By Tangotiger, 12:44 PM

A point well-made that the difference between ERA (or RA9) and FIP is two factors: sequencing and batted ball events.  If we do a better job to include component runs allowed (preferably using BaseRuns, but anything will do), then we can look at three numbers:

RA9
BSR9 (MGL uses CERA and BPro uses PERA for peripheral)
FIP

Going from RA9 to BSR9 means that you are removing sequencing from the equation.  Going from BSR9 to FIP means you are removing all the batted ball and baserunning events from the equation.

So, yes, I’m all in favor of showing the three numbers.
